Nano Dimension Completes Acquisition of Desktop Metal

3D Printing

April 3rd – Breaking News: Nano Dimension has officially completed its acquisition of Desktop Metal in a deal worth $179.3 million. This marks the conclusion of a high-profile M&A saga in the global 3D printing industry that has been unfolding since 2023.

The speed of this merger is astonishing. Earlier setbacks—including leadership changes at Nano Dimension and a lawsuit from Desktop Metal—cast doubt on the acquisition. Just a week ago, the Delaware Court of Chancery ordered the deal to proceed. Many expected further delays, but the swift resolution came as a surprise.

Nano Dimension has seen frequent leadership changes, causing instability in major strategic decisions. However, the company’s press release describes its new leadership team as “focused on addressing post-merger challenges and fully committed to building a sustainable business model.”

Financial reports for 2024 have yet to be released, but in 2023, Nano Dimension and Desktop Metal reported revenues of $56.31 million and $189.7 million, respectively. Meanwhile, Markforged, another key player, reported $85.1 million in revenue for fiscal year 2024. Based on these figures, the combined revenue of the three companies could reach approximately $300 million.

Nano Dimension’s Chairman, Ofir Baharav, expressed optimism about the merger:
“Completing the Desktop Metal acquisition is a major opportunity. We are excited to bring more innovative technologies to our customers. Our new leadership team is focused on making strategic decisions that will ensure a sustainable business model, delivering long-term value for all stakeholders. We will conduct a thorough evaluation of our combined operations, identify cost synergies, and strategically realign resources toward our most promising product lines.”

Looking ahead, Nano Dimension plans to move forward with its acquisition of Markforged, which has a similar product portfolio to Desktop Metal. This $115 million deal, once completed, will further solidify Nano Dimension’s position as a rising powerhouse in the 3D printing industry.
